Sporting clubs instead of mallets and tees instead of nails, the NDG crew dusted off their cleats and headed for the green. But this year’s “green” wasn’t some trendy Pantone, and, to be fair, the NDG office might be a little less familiar with a 3 Wood than a 2’ X FORE! In case you can’t already tell by the wordplay, we’re talking golf!
During the NARI/NKBA Summer Golf Classic at Morgan Creek Golf Club, there was nothing better than playing a few holes to raise money for a charitable cause. The Golf Classic is one of our favorite excuses to leave the office for a day, and enjoy the Great Outdoors. But the event’s not all fun-and-games; the Golf Classic has heart too. This past year, NARI/NKBA were able to raise $1,000 for CREATE, a mentoring program developed by the Sacramento Regional Builders Exchange. Over their past 12 years in Sacramento, the SRBX has empowered over 24 schools with over $155,000 in scholarship awards, providing ample opportunity for students to learn more about architecture, engineering, and construction (and opportunity for us to really hone our backswing).
But, really now, what’s a day on the links without just a little appreciation for design? Golf courses have a whole architecture of their own: the distinct visual boundaries of the putting green, fairway, and rough — each playing-zone delineated by the course’s natural flora; cleverly embossed grass knolls and their formless confidant, i.e., the pesky sand-trap; and, god-help-us if we don’t see a color palette for a mid-century kitchen in the lilies and lotuses floating on the 18th hole’s water-feature.
All things considered, if we put the same energy we did into appreciating design as we did golf, maybe we’d have reached the PGA Tour. But we’ll let golfer be golfers, so you can keep coming to us with your design needs.
