With a Hawaiian beach in the background, Nar took part in the first ever NKBA Summit: Luxury Defined. Over the course of two days Nar, along with many fellow luxury designers and market experts, discuss what luxury design truly is and how this past year has affected the world of luxury design.
Nar started day one with the quote of the week, “I dream about kitchens every day.” Discussing the path to becoming a luxury designer with the managing director for Interior Design, Helene Oberman, Nar reflects on his non-traditional path into the world of luxury kitchen and bath design. Moving from Mexico to the U.S. in his youth, he learned the importance of being able to pivot, evolve and be flexible. Through his travels in North Africa and Europe, he found more to life than just building buildings. The colors, foods, smells and the different way of doing things shifted his attention from building to designing.
On day two, while discussing what luxury is and what it is not, Nar said that luxury is not just about the quality of the products but “it’s also about spaces that are intentionally created for that particular client”. Designs must be customized to how a client lives and luxury is just as much about the experience as the product. Ultimately, the client is buying the Nar Design Group brand, and they need to know that he stands behind his work.
